WHAT WILL PEOPLE SAY???

          Have you ever caught yourself in the ‘what will people say’ web? Well, I have, a lot of times and I unfortunately I kinda get stuck in that web. Questions like ‘what would people say?’ , ‘how will they react?’, ‘what do they think?’ is what fills my mind. I remember when I wanted to do something really important to me but I couldn’t because I feared what people would say. Now, I am not saying that we should be completely ignorant or unconcerned about what people say, all I am simply saying is that it shouldn’t be the basics for your actions. Below are some points that I think runshould inform your choice of action anytime, any day.


Motive: Why am I taking this action? What is the motive behind this action? Most times we take actions for the bad reasons, we might not really know until we take time out to discern the motive. So if your actions are not pure honestly, there is no point doing it!

Me: Is it pleasing to me? Peradventure your motives are pure, the next question is it pleasing to me? Are you going to derive satisfaction from doing it? Is this really what you want? At the end of the day, it boils down to you. You are the one that primarily faces the consequences of your actions or inactions. Ensure that whatever you do gives you real peace, fulfillment and joy.

Important People: What does the important persons in my life think about this? Before you begin to accuse me of being confused let me clarify something. How important people are to you is solely dependent on how close you are to them (not necessarily by family ties though) .When I started this piece, I was talking about people generally those who hardly have an input in your life say the people who think they have a stake in your life but they clearly don’t. But in this particular point, I am talking about people that are dear to your heart, people that really love and care for you people that have your best interest at heart, eg your spouse, children, a boss who wants the best for you etc. For instance, before you pick up a job or change a career you would have to consider the adverse effect it would have on your children so in this case, their opinion is very important.

God: What does God say about it? I think this is the most important question we should always ask ourselves but unfortunately,many people ignore it. He alone knows the end right from the beginning. Let Him be your guide,let Him lead you. Be conscious enough to know when He wants you to take that step or not. Let Him inform your choice of friendship, relationship, career, and life decisions. Make it a conscious effort to please Him and homestly the best way to please Him is to ask yourself What does God think about this? Is this action pleasing to God? Does it conform to His dictates and standards for my life?

        This is the crucifix of the matter, do what pleases you, follow your dreams, don’t let anyone debar you from being who God wants you to be. People would always talk, haters would take particular interest in you because they are surprised at how you are able to achieve what they cant even imagine, Losers and critics would always want to bring you down. Hold on to your dreams and don’t let it go simply because someone doesn’t want you to rise and make a difference. As long as God is satisfied with you, please go ahead because greater is He that is in you than he tnhat is in the world.
