10 THINGS YOU NEED TO DO BEFORE YOU ARE THIRTY

The first three decades of your life are really important because it has a large capacity to define how the next 30 years of your life will turn out to be. It determines to a large extent if you will be happy or sad in the later part of your life because these years are years where you get to make crucial decisions that will shape the course of your destiny.

In case you are past the age of thirty, below are 10 things you ought to have done or you are long over due to do and if you are still below thirty then these are 10 things you MUST endeavour to achieve before you are thirty. They are written in no particular order so just highlight the ones you have not yet achieved and endeavour to achieve them.

KNOW HOW TO DRIVE: Many people learn how to drive really late in life and by then they have become so ‘car-phobic’ that they find it difficult to even enjoy their driving lessons talk more of driving at night or driving long distances.

KNOW THY GOD: Knowing God is the most important thing in life. Before you are thirty you must have a close, deep, intimate relationship with your Maker. An understanding of who your maker is, how he acts and responds to situations and what He stands for will help in your navigation later in life.

UNDERSTAND YOURSELF: It is dangerous to get married or bring someone into this world if you don't even have a firm grasp of yourself. Truly, it will take the whole of your lifetime to understand yourself but you have to start early enough to know who you are and why you act the way you do. An understanding of who you really are is a discovery process that even makes relating with others easier.

DISCOVER PURPOSE
: Discovering Purpose is one of the most highly used phrase but least understood. Discovering purpose means different things to different people. But what it basically means is finding something within you that you live for and can outlive you.

LEARN EATING ETIQUETTE:  Some people still don’t know how to use their cutlery and they end up messing up themselves when they are in public. Know the names of all the ‘eating irons’, know how to handle them and when to handle them.

UNDERSTAND LOVE: Understand what real love means, be willing to love all those around you and be ready to be loved. Understand your love language and that of others.

GET EDUCATED: Get a formal education. No matter how seemingly insignificant it might seem, getting an education is key to our understanding of the times we live in. It helps raise our Intelligence Quotient and our social status.

UNDERSTAND PEOPLE: Stephen Covey in his book ‘7 Habits of highly Effective People’ says clearly that we should ‘seek first to understand than to be understood’. People love to be around those who understand them so if you want to have people around you who will be willing to catch a grenade for  you then learn first to understand them. More so, people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.

BE AN AVID READER: Before you are thirty, make it a goal to have read at least a 200 books. Read mind building books, books relating to your field of study, spiritual books that will build your work with God and every other book that will enhance your chance of imparting the world.

HAVE A GREAT SOCIAL SKILL: Some people at forty still act as if they are the only ones created in the world simply because the have refused to learn social skills while they were younger. Relating well with people is a must learn skill because people matter and you can't go far in life without the input of others in your life.   

In conclusion, a happier life can be achieved if we are willing to plan ahead and understand why we are here.
